God Does Not Lie And Does Not Change

God Does Not Lie or Change

We are prone to forget this: that God neither lies nor changes. The Bible, whether we are in the Old Testament or New, if God has spoken, He will make it come to pass. If we would hold on to this truth, all false doctrine would be swept away; if people knew their Bible, believed and did what it says, they would always be right with God.  Consider the following verses:

  • And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32.
  • God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19.
  • For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. Malachi 3:6.

The Danger of Itching Ears

But the problem is that too many ‘believers’ want the pleasures and the things of this world more than they want to obey God, so for them the Bible must “say” what they want it to say. The “itching ears” of 2 Timothy 4:3-4 speak volumes about these people: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

False Doctrines and Denominations

Paul is speaking to the church as well as to Timothy, when he says “they will not endure sound doctrine” which was already at work in the first century church and has grown exponentially. There are believed to be over 45,000 Christian denominations in the world today, all with various claims of being the true faith; how big of a clue do we need? – this is not a little wrong, but terribly wrong! Christian people, where is your indignation?

One Spirit, One Body

Paul taught us in 1 Corinthians 12:13 “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, whether salves or free – and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.”

Believers in Christ, we appeal to common sense. There is nothing right about having 45,000 denominations of Christianity in the world today, nothing! The shear confusion this produces in the Christian landscape should be screaming in our ears that something is terribly wrong. We need to wake up. Is our hope of salvation not worth our effort to make sure we are not being carried along in a flashflood of spiritual disintegration marketed as truth? We are called to one Spirit and one body.

The Deception of False Hope

Few will sound the alarm that we have in our multitude of denominations false doctrines that pollute the truth of Jesus Christ, distorting and deceiving those who follow such doctrines, which are directing them down the pathway to hell with their disguised errors. These doctrines are lying to them yet convey enough truth to let them believe they are safely bound for heaven. The mountain of evidence confirms these doctrines are extremely popular, dominating the world-wide Christian landscape!

Why Sound Doctrine Matters

We ask a simple question: why bother with Christianity at all if we aren’t willing to pursue the kingdom according to God’s instruction? That is the sinister aspect of false doctrine, it gives a false hope for things eternal while the believer continues disobeying God, separated from God while believing all is well. All false doctrine ends in the same outcome; the deceived people continue in their worldliness (and some appear very religious) believing they are saved when they are not. Consider 1 Corinthians 6:9 which says: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?” We either believe God, or we don’t; the language here is too clear for misunderstanding.

A Call to Repent and Believe the Truth

Please forgive us for being blunt, but most Christians need a serious course correction in their theology. We must be grounded in what the Bible teaches. We cannot base our faith on the teachings of denominations, or some historic or contemporary popular evangelist, or weighty Bible commentaries. We need to align all our faith to coincide with Bible teaching. We need to repent of our past deficiencies. God has given us the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, and it stops right there. When we add to it, we begin to lose the truth. And always remember: God does not lie and does not change.
