Why The 1st John Website Exists

Table of Contents

Christianity today presents a vast, often disunified landscape of beliefs and denominations regarding life for Christ, human nature, and eternal destiny. While many choose a comfortable point of view, the Bible clearly outlines specific truths and decisions necessary for salvation, a conditional gift from God.

The core problem we’ve identified is that most churches fail to teach or fully support God’s complete requirements for salvation. This is why the 1st John website exists. We are dedicated to sharing what we’ve learned solely from the Bible, exposing what is missing or distorted in common Christian doctrines. Our purpose is not endless debate over specific denominations, but to raise awareness that false doctrines are prolific and to expose them directly from Scripture.

How 1st John Identifies False Doctrine

Our definition of False Doctrine is simply any Christian teaching that is contrary to what the Bible teaches regarding salvation.  If a believer is taught a corrupted path to salvation that does not fulfill God’s requirements, we regard this as a deliberate misrepresentation of God’s word.  The goal of false doctrine is to prevent salvation, like deflecting an arrow from its intended path—a rigorous goal of Satan.

The Allure of False Doctrine

False doctrines are infused with truth-claims that give believers what they want to believe, because they have not yet heard and accepted the whole truth, and until they do, a lie is more attractive, 2 Timothy 4:3-4. Invariably, false doctrine prevents the believer from being born again while claiming the opposite.

The believer remains trapped in their sins thinking everything is good, Jesus loves them and died for them and grace covers everything else.  It sounds great, and many people embrace such doctrines and will put up resistance if it is challenged.  It is hard to share the truth with people who do not want to hear it.  False doctrine is very adept at creating a firewall against exposure, because once again, this is what the believer, still in their sins, wants to believe.

Mistaking Sincerity For Truth

A person can be a person of extreme faith, fervent faith, yet not having faith in the right things. We cannot confirm that we adhere to the “truth” simply because we are so sincere, loving, kind, generous or self-sacrificing. We can find these attributes everywhere, even in false religions that have nothing to do with God. It is God who tells us what we must have our faith set upon, and no substitutions are allowed. We cannot bypass our need to find and hold to the truth that God teaches us, and the only source of truth is the Bible.

1st John Defends Sound Doctrine

We at 1st John have a passion to share with the world the truths we have found in God’s word, what the Bible calls sound doctrine.  These truths aren’t so hidden as they are overlooked.  We all have Bibles, most of which are adequate translations, and that is where the truth can be found; we use the NJKV in our quoted scriptures unless noted.  We want to encourage brothers and sisters to know the full message of salvation, not just a partial one, or worse, a corrupt one.

Every word that comes from our 1st John community must come from the Bible itself, the word of God; it is not us speaking, but God, just as Jesus said (paraphrased): the words I speak are not my own, see: John 12:49-50, John 14:10, John 14:24.  Further, if we are to be saved, Jesus said we must be born again, John 3:3.  To understand what “born again” means, we rely on 1John 2:28-3:10 where apostle John tells us plainly what it means to be born of God, and to be the children of God.  It is our mission to share this, with all its facets, with everyone who identifies as a Christian.

In conclusion, we quote: “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” 1 Timothy 2:3-4.  We rejoice in the truth that sets men free, John 8:32!
